Join us and celebrate Ms Coco Lee’s achievement—a 2023 graduate of BA (Hons) in English Language and Literature! 🎉
After completing her Honours Project (supervised by Prof. Emily Chow-Quesada), her work has been published as a single-authored article!
Title: “(Re)writing the Past and Future: Time, Space, and Memory in Akwaeke Emezi’s Freshwater and Nnedi Okorafor’s Remote Control”
Journal: African Literature Today
Link to the article: https://doi.org/10.2307/jj.28757323.8
We have a few words from Coco:

Agora: Congratulations, Coco! What is the article about?
Coco: Thank you! This article reinterprets temporality, space, and memory in two Africanfuturist works, demonstrating how they challenge colonial paradigms in historiography and facilitate a rewriting of history from an African perspective.
Agora: How did you revise the project from an HP to a published article?
Coco: From a HP chapter to a singled-out article, the major challenge is to expand my arguments to stand alone while condensing it due to the limited word count. Since you cannot put the entire HP there, the process involves rewriting a piece by selecting the best and significant bit. I revised the theoretical framework to better suit for the article, removed excessive secondary references, and expanded my discussion with deeper textual analysis.
Agora: Do you have a message to students who are working on their HPs/Capstones?
Coco: To me, HP is not only a coursework but an opportunity to explore my academic interests and myself. Stretch it beyond what you have. Stay away from your comfort zone. Shout to the world what you love. Treat it as your only shot in the lifetime – give all you can give, do all you can do. Be proud of it and celebrate your efforts.
