The Department welcomed Professor Sirkant Sarangi (Aalborg University) to Hong Kong Baptist University for Department of English’s Research Postgraduate Seminar Series on “Exploring Professional/Health Communication through Discourse Analysis: Research Topics and Methods” (9-11 January 2020).

Sponsored by the University Grants Committee, the HKBU Department of English Language and Literature, and the Master of Arts in Language Studies (HKBU Faculty of Arts), the three-day symposium combined two keynote lectures by Professor Sarangi with face-to-face afternoon consultations allowing RPg conference attendees from HKBU and other area institutions to receive constructive advice on their on-going research.

Conference organiser, Jesse Yip Wai-chi (HKBU), commented, “As a discourse analyst, I am keen on conducting research related to health communication… and to grasp more opportunities to exchange ideas and learn from international scholars. I am extremely pleased and grateful [for] Prof. Sarangi’s two public lectures and nine individual consultation sessions for research postgraduate students. Feedback from participants has been very positive”.
