Zabrina Lo (Class of 2017) has been selected as one of the Hong Kong Scholarship for Excellence Scheme 2017-18 Scholars. The scholarship, worth £20,540, covers her full tuition fees for the postgraduate programme entitled “MA English: Issues in Modern Culture” at University College London.
The Hong Kong Scholarship for Excellence Scheme (HKSES) was set up on 25 November 2014 by the government to support local students for undergraduate and postgraduate studies overseas. The scheme has ‘a view to grooming a top cadre of talents with global vision, international network and world-class education, thereby contributing to enhancing Hong Kong’s competitiveness as Asia’s World City in a globalised knowledge economy.’ The selection criteria include the candidates’ extra-curricular activities, leadership, social contribution and future career goals. The awardees are required to return to Hong Kong to work for at least two years upon completion of their programme to fulfil their commitment to Hong Kong.
Zabrina, who belongs to the third cohort of scholars, took part in a meeting with Hong Kong’s Chief Executive Carrie Lam and other HKSES Scholars on 21 September 2017 in London. She has started her studies in the UK, which will continue until September 2018.
