My Collection Of Notebooks
Only a few pages used in each.
Some have been there for years.
Some new arrivals.
“In the beginning was the written word,”
I used to imagine
one could write like Hemingway
on these Moleskine pages.
Voices were kept
in various colours:
black are from the speaker,
blue are from me,
red are the questions arisen,
green are where the dialogues begin.
Neatly hand-written plans.
To-do list double-checked.
Then I was told
that living is all about trying to get by through chaos.
They are here to remind me
“The map is not the territory.”
Notes could be taken
but books are to be created.

Heidi Huang is Lecturer at the Department of English Language and Literature. She got her MA and PhD in Transcultural Studies in Lyon where she met her husband from Hong Kong.
